Yhprum's Law

Most of us are familiar with Murphy's Law.  It states, "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong."  I'd like to take a moment the talk about the opposite, Yhprum's Law.  This is the polar opposite. It states, "Everything that can work, will work."  The following is my personal example of Yhprum's law in my life.

Sometimes God (Life/the Universe for the remainder of this writing I will use God as my choice of word for these things.) gives us a pass.  Most of the time we get a pass on little things that we aren't even aware of but sometimes it is a bigger thing that is causing us stress.  After all, was said and done, we find that we didn't actually need to carry all that stress.  But it's not the same as a free pass.  God rewards the effort you put in, in an unexpected way but relieving way.

This past week, we had our annual housing inspection. We had neglected our cleaning duties for a while.  I was/am ill and have had some medical issues pop up along with that.  I am always anxious about inspections.  But this time, I was ill, recovering from surgery, and on new medications that brought their own issues to the party.

I cleaned quite a bit the day before the inspection.  I had to take longer than expected breaks and I was utterly exhausted.  By the time I fell asleep, it was almost 4am and I would need to wake at 7am to continue cleaning.  I got to the point I said, "It's good enough."  We exhaustedly waited from inspection (9am - 5pm).  When no one had shown up by the afternoon, we took a trip to the store.  There was no evidence anyone had come into the apartment at all.  And when 5pm rolled around, I realized this was my pass.

I worked my fingers to the point of aching and was feeling terrible but God saw my effort and no one came into my home.  I was relieved.  But the thought came to me, "If I hadn't cleaned like a madwoman, made a plan, and worked, the inspectors probably would have been there bright and early and my lease might have been in danger."  It seemed to me, my effort was seen and I was granted freedom from the stress of the day.

Sometimes, the obstacles we're facing in life (finances, illness, injury) can feel overwhelming.  It can cause us to freeze.  When we freeze, we become obstacles to the blessings and gifts God has in store for us.  We start feeling like victims of Murphy's Law.  But if we embrace Yhprum's law, unfreeze, and do our part, we may find that we've been given a pass.
